Social costs of crime
On behalf of the Belgian Federal Police, the Research Group on Policy Management is computing the social costs of crime. All relevant costs – except police and judicial costs – of virtually all types of crime are taken into account. The first part of the project consists of a literature study of both theory and international practice with respect to crime cost calculations. Next, a conceptual model is developed in which all relevant parameters and variables are included which are necessary to draw up National Crime Surveys. In the third part, the model is made operational. For this purpose, several case-studies will be developed and a manual will be written for the strategic analysis department of the Federal Police.
